The Henderson debate team attended the National Speech and Debate Association District on Feb. 20-22. The team was comprised of sophomores David Magouirk and Carter Wheat along with junior Emma Cross.
“It was an amazing experience,” coach Callie Lawerence said. “I cannot wait until next year!”
The team competed individually in Domestic Extemporaneous Speech, International Extemporaneous Speech, Policy, and Congress Debate.
“I was excited for the opportunity to test my skills,” Magouirk said. “This was my first year, I plan on improving and coming back stronger next year. “
Wheat placed 2nd in International Exempt advancing him to Nationals.
“The feeling of making it to Nationals was almost indescribable, I was on cloud 9,” Wheat said. “I was already extremely excited to just debate a district, I didn’t think I’d actually make it as a sophomore. Nationals here we come.”
