The Lion Pride Band competed in multiple contests at Bullard and Carthage last month, winning three sweepstakes overall in sight reading and concert performance events.
“I would describe the Lion Pride Band performance as superior, just as the judges rated it,” band director Craig Haynie said. “When the HHS Lion Pride Band shows up, everyone is going to see and hear the ‘right’ way to do band.”
The Junior Varsity Band ranked sweepstakes in sight reading and 2s in concert on Apr. 25 at Bullard High School.
“This is my second year competing with the band,” JV Band member Erin Burris said. “We played our hearts out. I’m super excited for next year and to another great year.”
The next day, the Varsity Band ranked sweepstakes in both sight reading and concert performance.
“I am so proud of our band’s success this year at contest,” drum major Mia Hay said. “We worked incredibly hard and were definitely rewarded with stellar results.”
At the middle school, the 7th grade Blue Band and the 8th grade band performed on Apr. 17 and 18 at Carthage High School. The 8th graders received an excellent rating in their concert performance and a superior rating in sight reading, and the 7th graders ranked superior in both events.
“I look forward to band each year,” seventh-grader Jordyn Lybrand said. “It’s a chance to be heard and stand out.”
