On Friday October 27 the school board, the Chamber of Commerce, and others from the community gathered at Lion Stadium at 10:30 in the morning to celebrate the new field house that was built by the generous donations given to Henderson ISD by H. Grady Ash Jr.
“Building the new fieldhouse and stadium is a turning point for our school, a place we never thought we would get to.” Superintendent Keith Boles said. “The students and our community will have a facility we can all be proud of.”
After the band played, the ceremony began with speeches from members of the school board. They each recognized different individuals and groups who contributed to the building of the field house.
“I want to thank all the people that Mr. Boles has already mentioned, but I also want to say that had it not been for someone by the name of Mr. Ernest Winfrey we may not be here today.” Board Trustees President, Mrs. Gene Williams said. “Had it not been for him, we may not have this, and I really appreciate all of the support of the community and everyone that is here and those who couldn’t be here who have made this dream a reality.
Although Mr. Ash was not able to be at the ceremony, Ernest Winfrey stood in his place today cutting the ribbon.
“It is his [Mr. Ash] generosity and caring for others that we will always remember.” Mr. Boles said. “Needless to say, Mr. Ash is an exceptional individual.”
