The band attended All-Region competition in Rusk Dec. 10.

“We had the most placement of any band in our region,” Josh King said. “That was pretty exciting to me, and we also had a lot of students who were really close, so that means that there is a future underneath the ones that made it. It presents a really positive outlook for the next few years.”
Those who received positions in symphonic band include: Emma Baker, Liliana Tirado, Morgan Graham, Jennifer Galvan, Joy Williams, Ivana Quintanilla, Rheagan Hearne, Alyssa Youngblood, Sahvannah Shavers, Amanda Willis, Tessa Griego, Morgan Clifton, Elise Cavanaugh, Robert Mills, Akesh Patel, Zac Powell and Jakeb Copeland.

“I have been practicing since August for this,” Baker said. “I earned first chair [clarinet], so I think I did as well as I literally could have.”

Those who received concert band positions include: McKenzie Turner, Hannah Francisco, Aspun Johnson, Kelli Carrell, Annabelle Tipps, Shelbie Okerson, Sandra Jimenez, Kassidy Bogle, Isaac Wallace, Graham Bryan, Maalik Hill, Clay Gentry, Brady Robertson, Madeleine Eby, Peyton Chenault and Mitch Dorsey.

“I could have done way better if I would have started learning my music back in band camp,” Gentry said. “I didn’t really begin practicing until about two weeks before.”

For each participant’s audition they played a fast piece, a slow piece and a set of scales for their instrument.

“I went in a little nervous on my tenor because I had not played it nearly as much this year,” Powell said. “I practiced my bass a ton, because that is my main instrument. I went into the room [for my audition] with my bass trombone and played through the pieces, and when I walked out I had a nice feeling about it.”

Henderson received 33 positions at all-region with more positions in brass, woodwinds and percussion than any other school in the region.
